Foreword

By the grace of Allah, it is a great pleasure to introduce this issue of: The International Journal on Islamic Applications in Computer Science and Technology

The success and the welcome of this Journal by researchers from many countries, gave us great encouragement for continuing issuing in the due time. This Journal is aimed at publishing original research papers in the field of Islamic Applications in computer science and technology. This field is catching a momentum in the recent years. As a Journal interested in this field, it is the first International Journal of its specific field. As research is growing in this field, we hope that this Journal will be a platform for researchers working in the field to publish their research.

This issue contains three papers. The first one is entitled: Paramedic on Demand: First Aid App for Pilgrims

Paramedic on demand application is an Android application for mobile devices that would improve the quality and efficiency of the Health Ministry services that would be provided to the citizenry and foreigners by Saudi Red Crescent. The application used google maps functionalities to determine patients’ location on the emergency cases. It also includes direct call to Saudi Red Crescent, user medical profile and first aid procedures. In critical situations, which every second counts, paramedic on demand try to make a real difference in solving many problems that my face people and red crescent authorities by forwarding the request of rescue in millisecond, ultimately ensuring that user receives the instant help that he/she needs. In addition, it helps user to know what to do in few crucial moments. It is developed using Rapid Application Development (RAD) which is an effective methodology to provide much quicker development and higher-quality results than other software development methodologies. This project was conducted to develop the quality and efficiency of the health care services. Further studies took place to produce a version of the application that would serve the pilgrims and focus on their needs in Al-Hajj with English and Arabic languages. Moreover, the Health Ministry and The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah might adopt this application and others applications that promote awareness among public, automate the ministries services, delivering high-quality services for the benefit of pilgrims, and to makea step towards the national vision2030 of Saudi Arabia.

The second paper is entitled: Comparative Study of Opinion Mining and Sentiment Analysis: Algorithms and Applications

In this paper, a survey regarding the presently available techniques and applications that appear in the field of opinion mining is presented, such as: economy, security, marketing, spam detection, decision making, and elections expectation. The survey is based on the techniques used with English-written data. However it is important for future studies on other languages like Arabic and Malay.
