Cockeyed is a colloquial term that is sometimes used to describe a condition called strabismus. Strabismus is a condition in which the eyes are misaligned and do not work together properly. This can cause double vision, difficulty with depth perception, and other visual problems.
Strabismus can occur in children or adults and can be caused by a variety of factors, including problems with the muscles that control eye movement, nerve damage, or a family history of the condition.
Treatment for strabismus depends on the severity of the condition and may include the use of glasses or contact lenses, patching one eye to encourage the weaker eye to work harder, or surgery to adjust the alignment of the eyes.
