Children's weighted blanket suffocates two young sisters to death

Two young sisters in North Carolina suffocated to death inside a weighted blanket in April, months later - with just days left before Christmas - the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has .  

The sisters, ages 4 and 6, died of asphyxia after they became entrapped in the The Pillowfort Weighted Blanket, which includes a zipper, and suffocated in April 2022, 20대 남성 쇼핑몰 officials said. 

The youngsters were playing and sealed themselves inside the blanket cover which caused them to suffocate. The deaths happened at Camp Lejeune, a Marine Corps base camp in North Carolina.

According to a , the girls died at their family home on the base where their father is a staff sergeant with 3d Battalion, 6th Marines. No one was charged in the deaths. 

After those fatalities, however, Target reported two other children who also became trapped in the pillow, but survived. 

The weighted blanket, which sold for $40 exclusively at Target stores nationwide, and online since December 2018 through September 2022, were recalled on Thursday by the Consumer and Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Minneapolis-based Target Corporation.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an urgent warning on Thursday about the recall on the Pillowfort weighted blankets sold at Target  

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) posted on Twitter their urgent warning along with the recall number 23-078. 

'Pillowfort weighted blankets; A young child can become entrapped by unzipping and entering the blanket, posing a risk of death by asphyxiation. Two child deaths reported. Stop use, get full refund,' the post read.

The blankets weigh six pounds and measure 60 inches long and 40 inches wide and have a removable, waterproof and washable cover. The pillows come in eight prints and colors, including unicorn white, space navy, pink, blue, gray, buffalo plaid red, blue constellation, and unicorn pink.

The commission said people seeking a refund can return the blankets by mail or 20대 남성 쇼핑몰 at any Target store.

Additional products that were considered unsafe by the CPSC include The Life is Good Company's darkest blue women's fleece sweatshirts and men's fleece shorts due to violation of federal flammability standard and burn injuries to consumers.

Approximately 750 units of the clothing were recalled.  

Four hundred units of Ortal's traditional gas fireplaces - 90 and 110 version - were recalled after it was reported to be a fire hazard if improperly installed. Problems with heat release and ventilation can pose a fire hazard.

The Scotch Thermal Laminator, 20대 남성 쇼핑몰 TL1302, manufactured by 3M Scotch was also recalled due to a safety feature malfunction that occurs when the laminator overheats, again posing a fire hazard. Approximately, 516,500 are part of the recall, in addition to about 3,560 that were sold in Canada.
