Dalam aliran buku/pemahaman agama dan cukup banyak urban, organisasi Islam, dll. Diterbitkan oleh Kementerian Agama 2009, dijelaskan bahwa sejarah LDII itu sendiri tidak selalu menggunakan nama LDII, karena ada beberapa proses dan dinamika yang terjadi.
Proses pendirian LDII terjadi pada tahun 1940 karena gangguan yang dialami oleh Nurhasan al-Uubaidah (lahir: Kediri 1908) terhadap komunitas Islam Burengan atau tanah Jawa secara umum, yang merasa menyimpang dari Alquran dan Hadis. Penyimpangan yang disebutkan oleh Nurhasan terkait dengan kepercayaan dalam hal -hal yang dinyatakan bahwa mereka adalah takhayul, bid'ah dan khurafat.
Karena dia menganggap dirinya berhasil menarik jemaat, pada tahun 1951 sidang itu disebut Hadis Darul yang terjadi di desa Burengan Banjaran, Kediri, Jawa Timur. Nurhasan memutuskan sebagai Amir atau pemimpin Darul Hadith pada waktu itu.
Singkatnya, pendirian komunitas Hadis Darul ditolak oleh komunitas yang tidak sejalan dengan nilai -nilai yang diajarkannya.
Karena larangan itu, akhirnya para anggota Darul Hadis mencari cara untuk melanjutkan keberadaan mereka, sehingga mendirikan lembaga baru yang disebut Jamaah Islam dan mendirikan Yayasan Pendidikan Standar Nasional.
Tidak hanya itu, untuk melindungi keberadaan mereka, mereka menjalin hubungan dengan angka orde baru untuk mendapatkan perlindungan dan legalitas yang terkait dengan kegiatan mereka. Letnan Jenderal Ali Murtopo, wakil kepala Bakin dan staf Pahin (operasi khusus Suharto) kepada siapa ia mendekati anggota Jama'ah Islam, menyebutnya.
Berkat Ali Murtopo, Islam Jama'ah dilindungi oleh Partai Gackar, yang omong -omong adalah pesta yang berkuasa pada waktu itu. Pada akhirnya, Jama'ah Islam disarankan untuk mengubah nama itu menjadi karyawan Institut Islam Da'wah (Lemkari) pada 1 Januari 1972 untuk bebas melakukan kegiatan keagamaan LDII.
